There are 3 thermal pads on the back of the card. The two outside pads are 3mm thick. These sit over several capacitors on the card and are opposite most of the power regulation components on the face of the card.
These thermal pads appear to be 3mm thick.
- The long thermal pad is 17mm x 75mm x 3mm
- The short thermal pad is 15mm x 38mm x 3mm.
On the short side you can see the markings for another section of pads that can be added. The gap is the spot where the capacitors have a gap on the face of the card and the screw holds the heat sink to the back plate. Cooling the voltage regulators must not be that important since Gigabyte skipped adding pads on the other half of these parts so that they can add RGB effects to the back of the card.
The center thermal pad sits under the GPU it self. This pad appears to be 1MM thick.
This thermal pad is 32mm x 32mm x 1mm. You can see the imprint of most of the components. This pad is 1mm thick. I think a 1.5mm thick thermal pad would work here for better contact to all of the voltage components on the back of the GPU.
There are several spots around the GPU that have etchings to mark where pads should go. These etchings are found on the face, and back of the card where there currently are pads. I am guessing the back plate might be the same one for the 3090 24GB card and the markings are for pads on the rear mounted RAM.
These are the spots I added 3mm thermal pads to the back of my card.
- The etching for the thermal pads left and right of the GPU measure 15mm x 52mm each.
- The etching above the GPU is 15mm x 38mm.
- The etching below the GPU is 15mm x 15mm.
These measurements match up well with the actual pads that are on the face of the card that sit over the RAM chips.
